Why should you study for the DELF exam ?

The DELF diploma adds credibility and importance to your resume, recognized everywhere in the world and valued by French and European employers.

If you are aiming for a career with the European institutions, the DELF is a huge asset. It’s also important if you hope to study at a university in a French-speaking country or work in fields such as diplomacy, teaching, international law or humanitarian aid.

It provides you with an objective assessment of your language level.

What are the different levels and structures ?

DELF A1

At level A1, students can interact in a simple way, ask and answer simple questions about themselves, where they live, people they know, and things they have, initiate and respond to simple statements in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.

DELF A2

At the A2 level, students are beginning to be able to function in social situations. They are able to use simple everyday polite forms of greeting and address; greet people, ask how they are and react to news; handle very short social exchanges; ask and answer questions about what they do at work and in their free time; make and respond to invitations; discuss what to do, where to go and make arrangements to meet; make and accept offers.

They can also function ‘out and about’. They can make simple transactions in shops, post offices or banks; get simple information about travel; use public transport, ask for basic information, ask and give directions, and buy tickets.

DELF B1

At level B1, learners become independent, and can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.

Students can deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where French is spoken, and are able to produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. They can write small personal letters and emails and articles on familiar topics.

DELF B2

At level B2, learners understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization, as well of being able of interacting with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Students are required to produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

DELF C1

At level C1, students are independent and can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning. They can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. They can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes, produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

DELF C2

At level C2, students can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. They can summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. They can express themselves spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations.
